Vincentian athlete Shafiqua Maloney has advanced to the finals of the Women’s 800-meter race in the 2024 Paris Olympics.
In her semi-final race on Sunday, Maloney clocked a time 1:57.59, placing second and becoming the first Vincentian to advance to the 800-metre finals of the Olympics.
In her Heat 5 race on Friday (August 2), she set a new national record with a time of 1:58.23, placing third, but her 1:57:59, in Sunday’s semifinals, means she has now set a new national record.

In Sunday’s race, she was just behind Ethiopia’s Tsige Duguma who clocked a time of 1:57.47.
The women’s 800-metre final race will be held tomorrow, Monday, August 5, 2024, at 9:45 p.m. Paris time or 3:45 p.m., Atlantic Standard Time (SVG time).
