The New Testament Church of God, St. Vincent, through its Sunday School and Children Ministry Department, has invested more than XCD $5,000 in scholarships and other awards this year to help its students.

The church held its fifth annual Scholarship award ceremony on Wednesday 31st July 2024. This event was held at the Church’s Conference Room at Wilson Hill.

At the ceremony, five students, each received $1000.00, two others received bursaries of $200.00 each and four others were assisted with $50.00 each for the Book Loan Scheme, according to a press release.

The five students who each received $1,000 are Delron Delves, Kemora Ashton, Fitzrese Selby, Evernique Herbert, and Lorrene Pope.

Pope, who is entering Form One in September is the newest recipient of the scholarship which is renewed each year to recipients for each of their five years in secondary school.

The other recipients of this year’s award are continuing on the scholarship programme.

“Before the presentation, Administrative Bishop, Wendell Davis encouraged the recipients to do their best at school and to continue to participate in Sunday School. Parents were also encouraged to do everything in their duty to ensure that their children succeed. Bishop Davis commended the Sunday School and Children’s Ministries Department for the continued vision for the children,” the press release stated.

“In 2020, the then team leader, Minister Casandra Barrow had a divine idea to award a scholarship to a child who is actively involved in Sunday School at their local church level and whose economic challenges inhibit the ability to attend a secondary school after being successful in the CPEA. The Sunday School and Children Ministry team starts putting things in place including establishing the initiative with rules and application forms made available to all the local churches nationwide,” the press release stated.

The church said the first awardee of the scholarship was Delron Delves of the Church in Biabou.

“Delron has been encouraging with his performance at Grammar School and the Department decided to make this award an annual one,” the release stated.

The church said its 2024 Sunday School Scholarship is awarded to Lorrene Pope of the Chapmans church. The awardees from previous years are Kemora Ashton in 2021, Fitzrese Selby in 2022, and Evernique Herbert in 2023.

This year’s Award Ceremony also heard addresses from Minister Susanne Lewis – Department Leader, and Pastor of the New Testament Church of God, Belair – Pastor Patsy Ann Garraway. Also in attendance were other members of the Sunday School and Children Ministries Team, parents, and other supporters, the press release stated.
