Imagine what would happen when leading lyricists from two countries meet.
Well, it happened moments ago as Vincentian Shertz “Problem Child” James, a successive winner of Road March titles and a regionally acclaimed songwriter for soca artistes met with Jamaica’s lyricist – Adidja Azim Palmer, known as Vybz Kartel who writes, sings, and performs dancehall music.
Both entertainers met this morning (August 18) at Be Fit Movement Gym in St. Vincent, and Kartel could be seen vibing to Problem Child’s ‘Holiday’. (Updated)
Mr. James (Problem Child) is often regarded by many as one of the best lyricists to have emerged from St. Vincent and the Grenadines. According to Loop News, he has written for the likes of renowned Trinidadian soca stars – Patrice Roberts and Shal Marshall.

“Problem Child has been the genius pen behind songs such as Roberts ‘Like it Like that’ with Kees Dieffenthaller, her ‘Old and Grey’ song, Shal’s ‘Splinters’ and all the other songs on the 2 AM riddim,” Loop News reported in 2019.
His music has reached regional and international audiences in similar ways to Vincentian soca artiste – Gamal ‘Skinny Fabulous’ Doyle and Kevin Lyttle.
Mr. Palmer (Vybz Kartel) arrived here on Friday night, and it is believed that he has come for medical reasons. In a recent video, he listed St. Vincent and the Grenadines (SVG) as one of the countries he was considering visiting to get treatment for Graves’ disease.

Graves’ disease, according to Mayo Clinic, is “an immune system condition that affects the thyroid gland. It causes the body to make too much thyroid hormone. That condition is called hyperthyroidism”.
Though Mr. Palmer is believed to be here to attend to his health, he has been up and about and has visited Kingstown the capital of St. Vincent and the Grenadines. He was spotted today shopping.
His visit comes weeks after he was freed of a murder charge in Jamaica and released from prison after serving 13 years of his sentence.
It is not clear if Mr. Palmer and Mr. James will strike up a collaboration to see a fusion between soca and dancehall.
