Three Vincentians are among several Eastern Caribbean and Barbados residents who have this year been awarded Chevening Scholarships, the British High Commissions in Barbados and the Eastern Caribbean announced on Facebook today.
They are Kaylia Toney, Adriel Francois, and Jamar Goodluck.
They will pursue taught master’s degrees in the United Kingdom during the 2024/2025 academic year.
The British High Commission said Kaylia Toney is a Barrister-at-Law and Solicitor based in Saint Vincent and the Grenadines. A graduate of the University of the West Indies and the Hugh Wooding Law School, she began her professional career at the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions, where she served as Crown Counsel. During her tenure, she played a key role in launching the Anti-Crime Student Engagement Programme, an initiative aimed at deterring youth from criminal activity.
Currently, Kaylia is the Legal Officer at the Financial Intelligence Unit, where she specialises in combating financial crimes. She is passionate about youth empowerment and advocacy, is an active LOUD influencer, who participates in a youth mentorship programme designed by the National Commission on Crime Prevention which fosters positive development and addresses juvenile delinquency. Kaylia also serves on the Business and Entrepreneurship Sector of the Prime Ministerial Advisory Council on Youth.
Kaylia will pursue a LLM in Regulation and Compliance at the Queen Mary University of London.

The High Commission said Adriel Francois is a global citizen. He has lived, worked and studied in the Caribbean, Asia and Europe and wears many hats, including that of Project Manager, Logistics & Engineering Coordinator, Chemical Engineer as well as Entrepreneur.
He possesses a BSc in Chemical Engineering and an MSc in Project Management. He attributes his process-driven and analytical ability to his exposure to engineering principles. His entrepreneurial journey has resulted in the creation of his fitness brand, CobraCamp, where he creates fitness content in Mandarin Chinese.
Applying engineering process development principles, Adriel has grown his brand to over 150,000 subscribers with over 10 million channel views on YouTube, earning his channel the prestigious “Youtube Creator 100K” plague.
Adriel will pursue an MBA in Business Transformation at Cranfield University.
Additionally, the High Commission said Jamar Goodluck currently serves as a System Administrator within the Treasury Department of the Public Service in St. Vincent & the Grenadines.
He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology & Management from the University of the West Indies, and an IMBA in Technology Management from the National Tsing Hua University, Taiwan.
Propelled by his desire to remain abreast with industry standards and trends, Jamar also possesses an Ethical Hacking certificate from the Industrial Technology Research Institute (ITRI).
By improving his technical ability to safeguard citizens financial information, he endeavours to foster a more efficient and sustainable financial data integrity framework in St. Vincent and the Grenadines.
Jamar will pursue an MSc in Network and Information Security at Kingston University, London.

The High Commission said the Chevening Scholarship scheme is a global scholarship programme of the British government. The Scholarships are awarded to exceptional individuals with leadership potential and they enable recipients to study one-year Masters courses in a range of subjects at UK universities. The Scholarships are funded by the Foreign, Commonwealth, and Development Office and aim to support UK foreign policy priorities by creating lasting positive relationships with future leaders, influencers, and decision-makers.
Last year, 15 scholarships were awarded to individuals in Barbados and the Eastern Caribbean, three of which were from St. Vincent and the Grenadines.
