Flow St. Vincent and the Grenadines says it has awarded scholarships and grants to 10 students under its annual Scholarship Award and Grant, now in its 40th year.

In an August 28 press release, Flow St. Vincent and the Grenadines said the scholarship, which has a cash value of $11,400 XCD, is distributed over a seven-year period for each student.

The recipients of the scholarship are Chavela Hull, Kaylee Joseph, Azura James, Jazique McDonald, Dakota Ticker, Frank Marques, Jvari Joseand ph, Zachary Laidlow.  Jornique Compton and Shenelle Wilson were the recipients of the $1000 grant.

During an official ceremony which took place at Arnos Vale Rosea Office in St Vincent on Thursday, Flow reaffirmed its commitment to the advancement of future generations, the company said in a press release.

“This year is a special one for us as we mark 40 years of this meaningful programme. This is 40 years that the company has been supporting young people as they pursue their academic goals. This is certainly something to celebrate.

We are all benefiting here both the recipients and the company. This programme allows Flow to stay true to our mantra: Care, Connect and Commit,” said Country Manager, FLOW St. Vincent and the Grenadines, Wayne Hull.

For the first time, the programme is offering two one-time grants to students who are already in secondary school. Each one-off grant is valued at $1000 XCD. This year, two full scholarships and two grants were extended to students from the Southern Grenadines who were impacted by Hurricane Beryl, Flow St. Vincent and the Grenadines said.

The company said the Ministry of Education was instrumental in identifying the Grenadines students based on need and merit. Official from the ministry, Senior Education Officer, Mavis Findlay-Joseph explained why partnerships such as the Flow Scholarship are important.

“There are many students who have big dreams but need corporate assistance to make these dreams reality. Flow’s commitment to this annual venture means that each year students benefit from this much-needed help. Therefore, we join Flow in celebrating 40 years of this programme which serves as an invaluable investment in our youth,” the senior officer said.

Flow St Vincent and the Grenadines Annual Scholarship Award is applicable for attendance at secondary school and the St. Vincent and the Grenadines Community College. It was established with the help of the Commercial, Technical and Allied Workers’ Union (CTAWU) in 1984.  General Secretary (Ag.), Joseph Bonadie was present at the ceremony and reminisced on playing an integral role in the establishment of this scholarship 40 years ago.  “Cable and Wireless laid the foundation being the first company at that time to offer such a scholarship program and has since inspired many more institutions to this day.” Commented Mr. Bonadie.

More than 500 students across the country have benefitted from the programme which compliments the Company’s other philanthropic initiatives, the company said.

As it relates to those in The Grenadines affected by Hurricane Beryl, Flow continues to work assiduously to ensure the restoration of all our customers, the company said.

Flow, along with Flow Business and C&W Business, operate under C&W Communications whose parent company is Liberty Latin America.
