The Institute of Governance and Politics has congratulated Dr. Emanuel Quashie on the release of his most recent work, “The War on Terror and the Caribbean: Schmittian Perspectives”.

The book recived approval for publication by Routledge, one of the world’s top five academic publishers.

“This ground-breaking work digs into the history of terrorism in the Caribbean, investigating the intricate intersections of global terrorism inside the area and analysing the impact of the worldwide War on Terror via a Schmittian theoretical lens,” the Institute said.

“Dr. Quashie, a product of the education revolution and lecturer at the University of the West Indies Mona Campus, is a famous scholar in International Relations who inspires many young people around the Caribbean. His thought-provoking study provides new perspectives on both the historical backdrop of terrorism in the Caribbean and the broader implications of global terrorism operations for the region,” the Institute said in the press release.

In “The War on Terror and the Caribbean”, Dr. Quashie raises crucial issues, such as the implementation of Citizenship by Investment (CBI) initiatives and their security implications to the extent where Elvin Nimrod, Grenada’s then-Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, suspended the Economic Citizenship Program in 2001 due to worries that terrorists could use Grenadian passports for international terrorism. This issue has indeed caused a high level of discourse among governments and institutions across the region and the globe, the Institute added.

The IGPLAC said it is honoured to celebrate Dr Quashie’s continued academic excellence and his valuable contributions to the field of international relations. His work sheds new light on the complexities of terrorism, urging readers to rethink global power dynamics and regional security challenges in the Caribbean.

The Institute of Governance and Politics of Latin America and the Caribbean was launched in St. Vincent and the Grenadines (SVG) in August 2023 to promote a deepened understanding of government, politics, and the political economy of St Vincent and the Grenadines, the region, hemisphere, and the world.
