Chess players across St Vincent and the Grenadines (SVG) will have the opportunity once more to secure the TYRONE JACK MEMORIAL Trophy, as the 4th annual National Chess Championship gets going here this weekend, the SVG Chess Federation says.
In a December 27 press release, the SVG Chess Federation says the championship will be held from Friday 27th December to Monday 30th December 2024 at the University of the West Indies Global Campus.
This year’s Championship is partly sponsored by RE/MAX Results Realty, Mustique Company Ltd, and UWI Global Campus, the organisation said.
The championship is being led by Chairman of Competitions and Development Sub-committee Mr. Brian Cottle who is also a national team member and Chess Olympiad who is currently a Candidate Master as Arbiter.
“Players will be awarded with trophies, cash prizes and national titles,” the organisation said.
“The point standing thus far are as follows: 1. Raymond Osakwe and Vedant Shetty are in the lead with 2 points; 2. Dimitrii Bolgov has 1.5, Truman Quashie as well as Rebecca Izuchukwu; 3. Uchechukwu Ojiogu, Chinedu Enemchukwu, Ronnia Durham-Balcombe and Brinicia May at 1 point each; 4. Michael Amra and Luzanne Edwards both at 0.5; finally, Arianna Balcombe, Daria Bolgova and Lemar Abbott are on 0,” the Federation said.
“The closing ceremony takes place on Monday 30th December 2024 and will hear remarks from Sponsors, Officials of the Chess Federation, and others,” the release further stated.
