Another pole has fallen in the capital city of Kingstown just a few hours after the first pole fell this morning, injuring one person.
This afternoon’s incident occurred sometime after 2:00 p.m. on Long Lane Upper. Witnesses reported that a truck with a tractor passed by and became entangled in some wires attached to the pole, which contributed to the pole breaking out of its base.
Fortunately, no one was injured in this incident.
Earlier this morning, shortly after 7:00 a.m. on Tyrell Street, another truck was reportedly entangled in wires attached to a different pole, which led to that pole falling as well. In that incident, one person sustained injuries.
Injured was Nadine Alexander, a 51-year-old worker. The pole fell and injured her hand.
Natalia Ollivierre, an individual who witnessed the event said she and Ms. Alexander were walking in the area when a “truck got hooked up by the wires of the poles that were already burst and caused the pole [to] fall”.
“Though I was not injured, I got hit by the wires while running away,” she said, adding that, Ms. Alexander was stooping down and then ran, after which she scraped her hands.
The pole that fell this morning was not an electrical pole. The ownership of the second pole is not clear.
