Baystones Beach Bar has announced the launching of “Jiggy Talent,” a new soca competition aimed at providing a platform for local artistes across St. Vincent and the Grenadines.
The event gives aspiring performers the opportunity to create and showcase original soca songs, with the chance to win an EC $300 cash prize.
To enter, participants must register and pay an EC$25 fee. After registration, each artist will receive a custom soca beat. Using that beat, they are required to create an original song that includes at least three designated words—one of which must be “Baystones.”
The competition unfolds in three phases. In the first phase, artists register and receive their official beat. The second phase involves songwriting and performance, with contestants taking the stage on Thursday, April 10. The top six performers from that night will advance to the grand finale on Friday, April 18, where they will compete again at the Baystones Beach Bar. The winner will be determined by the audience’s reaction and a panel of judges using a standardised rubric.
To attend the final event, general admission will cost EC $10, while supporters of participating performers will pay a reduced fee of EC $5.
According to the organisers, the event aims to promote local soca talent by giving artists a platform to share their work. It also seeks to encourage greater community engagement through music and entertainment while helping to position Baystones Beach Bar as a venue for public events and performances.
“This competition isn’t just about winning; it’s about bringing the soca spirit to life, uniting music lovers, and giving artists a chance to shine,” said event coordinator Dawson Billingy.
