A special cricket match will be held on Sunday, 18 May, as part of the ongoing F-15 Softball Cricket Tournament at Richmond Hill Playing Field.

The planned match will consist of five overs per innings and will take place between two scheduled 15-over matches at the venue.

One News SVG is leading the organisation of this special match in collaboration with VC3 Television and the F-15 Cricket Tournament.

The initiative aims to promote community cricket and foster community spirit.

Two teams will participate in the match, but only the winning team will be eligible for payment based on runs scored and wickets taken. This measure is intended to deter or minimise any possibility of match-fixing.

Two of the five overs will be ‘super overs’, during which only two fielders will be allowed outside the circle. Each bowler will bowl one over.

Food and drinks will be available for purchase during the event.

The founder of One News SVG is the originator of the initiative. A former Under-15 school games cricketer, he explained that he attempted a similar concept years ago at Penniston Playing Field, where the rate was $0.25 per run. However, that match did not take place as only one team turned up.

Upon learning about the F-15 tournament, he approached the organisers with the idea, and they agreed to accommodate it. He believes that staging the match during the F-15 tournament will bring much-needed visibility and community engagement to the event, which is held on weekends at Richmond Hill Playing Field.

Mr McTair said Richmond Hill Playing Field is the ideal location to launch the initiative, as it was where he played his first competitive match as an Under-15 cricketer while attending secondary school in Kingstown.

He added that once sponsors come on board, the plan is to expand the concept to more communities across the country.

Sunday’s match is scheduled to begin at 2:30 p.m. sharp, weather permitting.

VC3 Television will provide coverage of the event.
