Minister of Agriculture, Forestry, Fisheries, Rural Transformation, Industry & Labour, Hon. Saboto Ceasar says one of the victims of the May 16 triple homicide in Belmont, Ms. Leslyn Davis, was one of this country’s main food exporters.
The minister made the revelation on Saturday (May 17) while expressing his condolences to the victims’ families.
“I am deeply saddened by the news of the tragic passing of our dear Sister Leslyn Davis of Belmont,” Mr Ceasar said.
“Sister Davis was always a voice of wisdom, and a solution oriented human being who was driven by pure love in everything she did. She was a great friend and a successful entrepreneur,” he added.
Mr. Caesar said: “As one of our main food exporters, she assisted with feeding our Region through her weekly trade of agricultural produce to Trinidad and Tobago. Her contribution to the marketing of agricultural produce from St. Vincent and the Grenadines was exemplary and will be deeply missed”.
“Our farmers, exporters, technical officers and all those with whom she interacted, are all trying to grapple with the news of the passing of our dear sister. My deepest condolences to her family, friends, community of producers and all those who mourn this profound loss. May her soul rest in eternal peace,” he added.
I ask that we continue to keep in our prayers the injured and the families of all those affected by last night’s unfortunate incident.”
The deceased are Ms. Leslyn Davis, Mr. Demeon Cumberbatch, and Mr. Joel Browne, an identical twin.
Ms. Jack is the second business person and the fifth individual to have been killed in a week.
In addition to the fatalities, two individuals-an adult male and a seven-year-old child-are currently being treated for gunshot wounds at the Milton Cato Memorial Hospital in Kingstown.
The perpetrator or perpetrators remain unknown at this time. However, residents reported that an individual opened fire at a shop located just below the Primary School in Belmont, injuring several people.
Residents told One News SVG that the incident appeared to be an armed robbery.
Their deaths mark 15 homicides recorded to date in St. Vincent and the Grenadines (SVG).
The Royal St. Vincent and the Grenadines Police Force (RSVGPF) said Saturday morning it will hold a press conference at 1:00 p.m.

List of other homicides this week (Sunday, May 11 to Friday, May 16, 2025:
The week began with the death of Mr. Stephen King, a resident and businessman of Green Hill.
In a May 13 press release, police said: “According to preliminary reports, at approximately 12:00 p.m., masked gunmen entered Mr. King’s premises and opened fire, shooting him multiple times about the body. The assailants fled the scene shortly after the incident.”
“Mr. King was immediately transported to the Milton Cato Memorial Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries shortly after arrival,” police said.

Then, on May 15, Ronaldo Adams, a 21-year-old Glen resident, was fatally wounded in the East St. George community, reportedly after an altercation with another individual over access to fruit from a Plumrose tree that belonged to neither man.
In a May 15 press release, the Royal St. Vincent and the Grenadines Police Force (RSVGPF) said: “One person is currently in police custody assisting with the investigation. A post-mortem examination is expected to be carried out to ascertain the exact cause of death. Investigations are ongoing”.
