The Commissioner of Police, Mr Enville Williams, has reminded licensed firearm holders that there are established procedures to follow when a firearm is not in their possession.
At a press conference on Monday, the Commissioner briefly addressed the death of 19-year-old Zachary Harry, who allegedly took his own life in the Lauders area on Sunday.
According to reports, Mr Harry is believed to have died from a gunshot wound to the head, allegedly inflicted with a licensed firearm that was present at the residence where the incident occurred.
At Monday’s press conference, Commissioner Williams stated:
“I also want to take this opportunity to speak directly to licensed firearm holders, because there is a procedure, there is a protocol where licensed firearms are concerned when it is not on your person.”
“And I said that specifically because last evening—well, yesterday afternoon around 2.50 p.m.—the young man, Zachary Harry, died by gunshot wound, and the firearm in question is a licensed firearm.”
The Commissioner did not comment further on the matter.
Police say no foul play is suspected, but investigations are ongoing.
