The Emancipation Cricket Festival presents, Carlos Brathwaite, captain and international marquee player, Leeward Lions

As West Indian cricket fans, how can we ever forget the name Carlos Brathwaite? “Carlos Brathwaite! Remember the name!” Ian Bishop screamed in delight as Brathwaite struck 4 consecutive sixes to clinch victory for West Indies in the 2016 T20 World Cup final against England. In that final, West Indies required 19 runs to win from 6 balls and Brathwaite blasted 24 runs from 4 balls, making the improbable seem so frivolous.

That final will always be his epitome and epitaph but his path to instant greatness was marked by early promise in First-class cricket. When he made his debut for Barbados against Trinidad and Tobago as a tall, powerful all-rounder, he took 7 wickets for 90 runs and finished that season with 26 wickets.

Additionally, on his Test debut against Australia in Australia, he scored 59 runs batting at number 8. Following his world cup heroics, Brathwaite became a highly sought after T20 specialist has featured in T20 leagues around the globe.

Someone of his international experience and proficiency with bat and ball will be expected to be a talisman among his fellow lions.

Let us hope that he channels his 2016 batting super power and give the Leeward Lions fans reasons to roar in celebration.
