The Emancipation Cricket Festival presents, Andre Fletcher, international marquee player, Grenadines Whalers.

Standing at six (6) feet, four (4) inches, Andre Fletcher is a commanding presence at the wicket and when in full flow he can score runs with commanding ease, as an impulsive right-handed opening batsman. Nicknamed “The Spice Man” by fans because of his Spice Island (Grenada) origin, Fletcher prefers to spice up an innings with boundaries rather than saturate it with singles. Over the years, The Spice Man has entertained us with some flavorful performances such as his T20I top score of 80 against Sri Lanka in the 2016 T20 World Cup. The West Indies won that World Cup with Fletcher in the squad as a batsman and alternate wicket-keeper. And like many of his World Cup-winning colleagues, Fletcher’s initiation into T20 cricket was at the Sticky Wicket, Antigua, during the Stanford Twenty20 Super Series.

At 19 years old in 2006, he debuted in the inaugural Stanford Super Series for Grenada with a man-of-the-match 47. His First-class debut followed in 2007 but his instant success in the Stanford Super Series of 2006 and 2008 superseded his formative years in Firs-class cricket and made him a regional super star. In the company of West Indies all-stars like Chris Gayle, Shivnarine Chanderpaul and Ramnaresh Sarwan, a young Fletcher featured for the Stanford Superstars eleven that defeated England for a US 20 million grand prize.

His international debut for the West Indies arrived in 2008 and although he played in 4 T20 world cups, winning one, it is his prolific scoring in the Caribbean Premier League that marks his consistency. This regional consistency augers well for the Grenadines Whalers and they have all right to feel buoyed by his presence in their squad. As a T20 world cup winner and serial entertainer with the bat, we can count on the Spice Man to spice up the Emancipation Cricket Festival.
