The Emancipation Cricket Festival presents, Obus Pienaar, international marquee player, Kingstown Kings.

Abraham Jacobus Pienaar was born in Bloemfontein, Orange Free State, South Africa. He commenced his cricketing odyssey as a left-arm fast bowler and was selected in that role for the South Africa U-19 cricket team that participated in the 2008 U-19 World Cup in Malaysia. However, a series of debilitating injuries influenced him to prioritize his batting. This injury-induced decision to dedicate copious effort and time to his batting craft, yielded success as his batting re-ignited his First-class career in South Africa.

Known for his right-handed domineering stroke-play in the middle of the order, he topped the batting charts for South Western Districts in the 2017/18 Sunfoil 3 Day Cup with 909 runs in 10 matches and was tournament leading run scorer the following season in the CSA 3 Day Provincial Cup with 957 runs in 10 matches. He also led South Western Districts batting in the CSA One Day Provincial Challenge in 2018/19 with 505 runs from 10 matches. His batting consistency in First-class cricket is reflected in a healthy average of 45 from 90 matches.

Drafted by Washington Freedom in the USA’s T20 Major League, Pienaar had some crucial electrifying cameos with the bat to help them defend their title. He is athletic in the field and can bowl leg-spin which further enhances his utility. With 8,000 runs and more than 150 wickets throughout his career, the Kingstown Kings have access to serious firepower in their quest to conquer all at the Emancipation Cricket Festival.
