Telecommunications provider Flow has invested nearly 60,000 Eastern Caribbean Dollars to support more than 40 students in obtaining a secondary and college education.

At its annual Scholarship Ceremony held today (7 August) at its headquarters in Roseau, Flow St. Vincent and the Grenadines awarded seven-year scholarships to seven students who recently passed the Caribbean Primary Exit Assessment (CPEA).

Each Flow scholarship amounts to XCD 11,400 per student over seven years, covering five years of secondary schooling and two years of college education. This year, the scholarship recipients also received new Samsung Chromebooks and other items to aid their studies.

The new scholarship recipients, who join nearly 40 other students continuing in the programme, are:

Xai Scrubb, Mhaiyah Samuel, Cleaon Woodley, Raffique Latchman, Kree Dellimore, Imani De Young, and Raynae Padmore.

Additionally, one student, Darius Ash, received a one-time grant valued at XCD 1,400.

Continuing students also received payments totalling XCD 39,000 at today’s ceremony.

Scholarship recipients are required to maintain satisfactory attendance, conduct, and academic performance throughout the programme.

Country Manager of Flow St. Vincent, Ms Andrea Liverpool, stated that Flow has been hosting this programme for 41 years.

She said:
“Yes, 41 years ago we launched this initiative to support our children, you know, in terms of following their dreams, nation building, and so forth. So it’s also part of our community work for St. Vincent and the Grenadines.”

Each student receives XCD 1,400 per annum, which increases to XCD 2,000 during their tertiary years.

“This is a testament to the hard work that you put in. And I’m going to ask that you continue to strive for excellence, continue to remain focused…” Ms Liverpool added.

To date, more than 500 students across St. Vincent and the Grenadines have benefited from the scholarship programme.

Flow’s other flagship youth development initiatives include support for the Ministry of Education’s Secondary School Award Programme, The Lions Club South National Secondary Schools Public Speaking Competition, The STEM SVG Summer Programme, and the National Telecommunications Regulatory Commission’s MyApp and iCode Competitions.
