Five students of the Barrouallie Secondary School received a $500 bursary scholarship from the Verna Douglas Fund on August 11, 2025, at Nature Care SVG in Layou.
The students who received the scholarships are Adrian Charles, Shanice Peters, Esronique Jack, Ojahey Loraine, and Jaylaine Joseph.
The Verna Douglas Fund, named in honour of the late Verna Douglas, was established in 2022 to recognise the former principal of Barrouallie Secondary School and support students in need with a $500 scholarship, continuing her legacy of helping the vulnerable.

Since its inception, the fund has awarded scholarships to 20 students.
The fund is supported by contributions from individuals such as Gideon Nash (owner of Nature Care SVG), Ulric McDowall, Vernon Cooper McDowall, Idris Williams, and her daughters Michelle and Fraulein Douglas, reflecting the community’s respect for her lifelong dedication to service.
This organisation serves as a reflection to Verna Douglas’ lifelong commitment to uplifting the community and nurturing the next generation.
