The Ashley Lashley Foundation (ALF) will be hosting a two-day workshop that will focus on best practices to combat climate change and build local capacity for climate adaptation.
This workshop will take place on 3rd and 4th September 2025 at the Holiday Inn Express and Suites Conference Room, commencing at 9 a.m. each day.
The workshop is part of a broader initiative, in collaboration with the United States Government, under the local-level project “Community-Driven Strategies for Stability and Resilience.” The initiative runs from May to September 2025 in Saint Lucia, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, and Grenada. It aims to enhance climate adaptation planning and implementation, support policy development, and promote sustainable adaptation strategies through stakeholder engagement and capacity building.
Activities include targeted workshops, community-informed policy briefs, private sector partnerships, and the creation of short videos and digital content to raise awareness of local adaptation efforts and best practices.
Recognising the increasing vulnerability of Caribbean nations to climate change, the initiative seeks to empower local communities to play a direct role in shaping solutions to environmental and socio-economic challenges. The workshop will focus on identifying and analysing local adaptation needs and prioritising the inclusion of youth, women, micro-entrepreneurs, and those in the fisheries, farming, and craft sectors, all of whom are invited to attend as beneficiaries.
The sessions will feature interactive discussions on resilience, focused group work, a private sector roundtable, and training on advocacy and communications. The workshop also aims to provide practical approaches to enhance participants’ capacity to effectively engage in climate adaptation planning and advocacy by building valuable skills in policy engagement, strategic communication, and decision-making influence, ensuring its relevance and responsiveness to real-world climate challenges.
Founded in 2019 and headquartered in Barbados, ALF is a registered non-profit organisation operating under the motto “Let No Obstacle Be Greater Than the Cause.” Its work centres on youth empowerment, public health, gender equality, and environmental sustainability, with a strong emphasis on equipping young people to be leaders in their communities.
