The St. Vincent Building and Loan Association (SVBLA) has awarded three scholarships to students as part of its ongoing commitment to supporting education and youth development in St. Vincent and the Grenadines.

The presentation ceremony took place on Monday, August 25, 2025, at the Association’s headquarters in Kingstown under the theme “No Limits, Just Possibilities”. The year’s theme encouraged recipients to embrace their potential and dream beyond academics.

Among the awardees was Kiana Brown, a graduate of St. Mary’s RC School who will begin her secondary education at the St. Vincent Girls’ High School (GHS) in September. While speaking with One News SVG, Brown expressed gratitude and excitement about her scholarship.

“I was extremely happy because this is my first time ever getting a scholarship. And I’m very happy because preparing for the exams was “tiring, very tiring.”

The ceremony also introduced the “Possibility Box,” a symbolic initiative linked to the theme. Students were invited to write down their dreams and goals on cards, which were then placed in the box as a reminder of the limitless opportunities ahead.

Speaking on behalf of SVBLA, Candice Sealey explained the concept:

“The theme was developed to focus on the fact that the students, all of the scholarship recipients, have boundless potential. We wanted them to start thinking about their future, the possibilities that lie ahead, even at this very early stage. It wasn’t just, ‘I won a scholarship and I’m going off to secondary school,’ but ‘what’s next?’”

She also offered words of encouragement to students across the country.

“Your mind is a powerful thing. Be open-minded and get ready to embrace opportunities, stay focused, and don’t be distracted. You may be young, but know what you want to achieve in the future because everything you are doing now is a stepping stone towards that,” she said.

Feature speaker at the event Calvert Jones described it as an honor to address the gathering. He tied the theme of “No Limits, Just Possibilities” to his own journey as a creative professional.

“That has been a hallmark in my own personal journey as a creative. And it’s not just limited to the creative field, because whether you are an engineer, whether you are a doctor, whatever you want to be, we have to learn to be creative and to challenge the status quo with whatever we want to do,” Jones said.

He emphasized that creativity unlocks real-world solutions, regardless of one’s academic or professional path.

“And of course, we have things like commitment, perseverance, and that sense of relentlessness that allows us to never give up on whatever we set out to do and accomplish,” Jones added.

The SVBLA has long invested in education and community-building initiatives. The 2025 scholarship recipients now join a growing list of students who have benefitted from the program, carrying forward the message of possibilities without limits.
