Plans for a new resort and marina at Cumberland Bay were officially announced this morning by Minister of Tourism, Civil Aviation, Sustainable Development and Culture, Hon. Carlos James, during his keynote address at the Tourism Stakeholders’ Conference.

According to Minister James, the resort will feature a 100-room hotel, ten overwater villas, 50 cottages, and a marina to accommodate pleasure yachts and small boats.

A consortium has already begun discussions to purchase ten acres of beachfront land for the proposed development. Minister James further noted that by 2026, St Vincent and the Grenadines is projected to increase its room stock to approximately 4,000 rooms on the mainland.

“These developments represent more than just new rooms,” Minister James said. “They will help address seasonality, unlock opportunities for hosting larger events, and generate more than 2,000 jobs across the hospitality services sector. With this expanded capacity, St Vincent and the Grenadines will be better positioned as a globally competitive tourism destination—competing for group travel, large destination weddings, international conferences, and high-value leisure markets—strengthening our overall tourism product and driving sustainable growth.”

This new project adds to ongoing investments in the sector, including the US$375 million Sandals Beaches resort on the Leeward end of the island, which will boast approximately 375 rooms and require at least 1,500 workers, as well as a Marriott development at Peter’s Hope that will add another 300 rooms. Together, these two resorts alone are expected to create more than 2,000 jobs.
