The Youlou Arts Foundation, in collaboration with the SVG Drum Foundation, will host a cultural event titled “Hold On To Your Roots” to acknowledge and celebrate Vincentian culture, heritage and values through the visual, performing and literary arts.
The event will take place on Saturday, September 20, from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Peace Memorial Hall. It will feature the artwork and crafts of several local artists, along with drumming and poetry performances, including special appearances by Maralyn Balantyne, Darkie and Williams, and Peter Providence.
Organisers say the theme “Hold On To Your Roots” is timely, as more people are pausing to reflect on culture, heritage and identity. “It is a sign of the times, acknowledging the anxiety society is facing about identity,” the Foundation said.
Tickets are available at Music Centre, Theo Saunders Craft Shop and the Youlou Arts Centre.
The Youlou Arts Foundation is encouraging the public to attend and take part in the festivities. For more information, call 1 (784) 457-4493 / 1 (784) 497-0226 or email youlouartcentre@gmail.com.
