Credit unions across St. Vincent and the Grenadines (SVG) have joined millions worldwide in celebrating International Credit Union (ICU) Week 2025, observed from October 12 to 18 under the global theme “Co-operation for a Prosperous World.” The observance highlights the movement’s continued role in promoting financial inclusion and community development.

This year’s celebration holds special significance as it coincides with the International Year of Co-operatives (IYC 2025), declared by the United Nations to emphasise the vital role co-operatives play in building inclusive, equitable, and sustainable societies.

Throughout the week, the St. Vincent and the Grenadines Co-operative League and its affiliates are hosting a range of activities showcasing the strength and community spirit of the co-operative movement. The celebrations began on Sunday, October 12, with religious observances held in churches across the country.

Commemorations continue with a series of media features celebrating co-operative impact. Members, staff, and volunteers are sharing their stories across radio, television, and social media, highlighting how co-operatives have transformed lives and strengthened communities.

On Thursday, October 16, International Credit Union Day will be observed by each credit union in its own unique way — recognising milestones, honouring pioneers, and expressing appreciation to members for their continued trust and support.

The week’s activities will culminate on Friday, October 17, with the National Credit Union and Co-operative Exhibition at the Kingstown Post Office Car Park.

The exhibition will showcase the products and services of the nation’s credit unions and co-operatives, demonstrating their key role in advancing financial inclusion, entrepreneurship, and community development across SVG.

For over seventy years, credit unions and co-operatives have been a cornerstone of national progress, promoting financial empowerment, entrepreneurship, and social upliftment. With a combined membership exceeding 82,000 Vincentians and savings of more than EC$680 million, the movement continues to embody the spirit of “people helping people.”

The SVG Co-operative League extends appreciation to all members, volunteers, and supporters, and invites the public to participate in this week’s activities as the nation celebrates unity, resilience, and shared prosperity through co-operation.
