Senator Shevern John, the New Democratic Party’s (NDP) candidate for North Windward, has outlined her vision for the constituency and the country, promising sweeping improvements in sports, tourism, infrastructure, health care, and community development if her party is elected to office in the next general election.
Addressing supporters at a rally on Saturday night, John, a teacher by profession pledged that her party would deliver “a plan with vision and heart” for every village stretching from Orange Hill to Fancy.
“The NDP have a plan. We have the vision, and we have the heart,” she declared to loud applause, calling on voters to “believe again in a government that listens and delivers,” John who first contested North Windward in 2020 said.

Sports and Youth Development at the Forefront
John’s promises placed heavy emphasis on youth and sports, long-standing priorities in the rural eastern belt of St Vincent. She vowed to build a playing field at Langley Park and establishone hard court in every village, complete with floodlighting and changing-room facilities.
She said her plan also includes upgrading existing playing fields across North Windward and constructing a multi-complex sporting facility designed to train athletes locally, a move she said would both nurture talent and create safer community spaces.
Tourism Development Rooted in Community
The NDP candidate also outlined plans to transform Fancy, Owia, and Sandy Bay into eco-tourism and cultural destinations, promising upgraded amenities, visitor guidance, and storage facilities to accommodate growing domestic tourism.
She championed a model of community-based tourism that would showcase local crafts, culture, and cuisine, while positioning the Joseph Chatoyer National Park as a heritage site for Garifuna history and culture.
John pledged to renovate the historic Fancy White House and make it “work for the people,” while committing to deepen cultural ties with the Garifuna community through an annual Garifuna Festival hosted in North Windward.

Infrastructure, Roads, and Safety
John promised to install road safety barriers in Rock Gutter, Old Sandy Bay, and other accident-prone areas. She also vowed to improve public lighting from Orange Hill to Fancy, describing the route as “dangerously dark at night.”
Routine road and drain maintenance, she said, would be prioritized under an NDP government, ensuring citizens see more frequent upgrades and safer commuting conditions.
Improving Health and Social Care
John also spoke passionately about improving health-care access for the elderly and vulnerable. Her proposals include Weekly home visits by doctors in Langley Park and Dickson; Establishing a new clinic in Dickson, and; Stationing an ambulance service beyond Rabacca to improve emergency response times. She further pledged that an NDP government would eliminate hospital fees for elderly citizens.

Policing, Public Safety, and Access
Mrs. John said that to improve security, she would see that there is dedicated police transport at the Owia and Sandy Bay stations, ensuring faster response to crime and emergencies. She also proposed installing ATMs above the Rabacca River to increase banking access in remote communities.
Economic Growth and Industry
John announced, that in a In a bid to stimulate local enterprise, her party intends to remove VAT on Rabacca sand and aggregates, a measure aimed at encouraging home construction and reducing building costs.
She also promised to revitalize the Owia Fisheries Complex and the Cassava Factory in Orange hill, boosting agricultural production.
