North Union Secondary School has won the 2025 Lions Club South/FLOW National Secondary Schools Public Speaking Competition.
The school’s representative, Braxton Lewis, outperformed five other finalists to secure victory in the Best Main Speech, Best Student Prepared Speech, and Best Impromptu Speech categories, achieving a clean sweep.
As a result, North Union Secondary School will now hold the Lion Michael De Freitas Challenge Trophy.
The competition, held in collaboration with the Ministry of Education, saw Mountain View Adventist Academy place second, represented by Joshua Samuel, while St Vincent Grammar School secured third place with Isaiah Toney as their representative.
The other finalists were Sophia DeRiggs of St Joseph’s Convent Kingstown, J’Quan Edwards of Thomas Saunders Secondary School, and Serenity Joseph of St Vincent Girls’ High School.
The main topic was: “The emerging population crisis in the English-speaking Caribbean is creating economic stagnation. Yet, policymakers have been largely unreactive to this demographic shift.”
