Prime Minister Dr. Ralph Gonsalves has called on supporters of the Unity Labour Party (ULP) to uphold democratic values and ensure a peaceful and lawful electoral process as the country approaches the end of its special voter registration period.

Speaking at a recent ULP rally, the Prime Minister emphasized the importance of respecting political opponents and refraining from acts of vandalism. “Do not tear down or burn the posters of other parties,” he urged. “We are a democratic and peace loving people. Let us lead by example.”

Dr. Gonsalves also warned against illegal voter registration practices, alleging that the opposition New Democratic Party (NDP) was attempting to transfer voters into constituencies where they do not reside. “It is a criminal offence to knowingly register in an area where you do not live,” he stated, adding that such actions could result in legal consequences.

He encouraged ULP supporters whom he referred to as “Warriors of the Labour family” to remain vigilant, monitor their communities, and report any suspicious activity to the relevant authorities. “Make checks from time to time. If you hear or see anything, lodge a formal objection,” he said.

The Prime Minister also called on party members to assist young, unregistered voters in obtaining their birth certificates and completing the registration process before the deadline on November 13. “Help them get registered and have them vote for Labour,” he said, highlighting the role of candidates and constituency councils in facilitating this effort.

While criticizing the opposition’s leadership, Dr. Gonsalves reiterated his commitment to a free and fair election. “We believe in elections. We believe in democracy,” he affirmed.

The call comes amid heightened political activity and scrutiny over electoral integrity, with both major parties mobilizing supporters ahead of the upcoming general elections on November 27th, 2025.
