Minister of Tourism and Unity Labour Party candidate for North Leeward, Carlos James, has announced that the proposed Cumberland Bay Resort will generate over 300 jobs, offering increased opportunities for residents of North Leeward.

The Cumberland Bay Resort and Marina is a major proposed hotel and marina development that will initially feature more than 150 rooms and over-water bungalows.

“This investment will create over 300 jobs for our people — from chefs and housekeepers to tour guides and maintenance staff. This project will not only bring tourism to our shores but also prosperity to our homes,” Mr James said during a rally held on 8 November at Chateaubelair.

He added, “This development will open hundreds of jobs, ignite tourism, and transform our coastline into a beacon of opportunity for North Leeward. These are not just projects — they are an indication of what resilience and leadership can achieve together.”

“To ensure our people benefit directly, we will provide more concessions for taxi operators and tour guides, empowering local entrepreneurs to capitalise on the new tourism economy emerging here in North Leeward,” Mr James stated.

He further revealed that the Cabinet had recently approved financing for a Caribbean Development Bank (CDB)-funded feasibility study on the proposed Cumberland-Walliabou Road, which could potentially halve travel time to Kingstown and open up further infrastructure investment opportunities in the constituency.

Mr James also confirmed that training in hospitality and related fields will continue at the North Leeward Technical Institute to prepare the local workforce.

He noted that many North Leeward residents who have trained and graduated from the institute are now employed at Sandals Resort.
