Unity Labour Party (ULP) candidate Camillo Gonsalves has unveiled a bold and expansive development agenda for theEast St. George constituency , pledging transformative investments in education, healthcare, housing, and tourism as the country heads into general elections.

Addressing supporters at a recent ULP political meeting, Gonsalves described East St. George as the most populatedand dynamic constituency in the nation, yet the only one without a secondary school. That, he declared, is about to change.

“We are going to see the construction of the most advanced secondary school anywhere in St. Vincent,” Gonsalves said, describing the project as a “Next Generation” institution that will redefine education in the country. The new Brighton Secondary School, he explained, will not resemble the traditional models built over the past four decades. Instead, it will be a centre of excellence for students pursuing arts, culture, science, and technology.

The facility will include a state-of-the-art band room, a performing arts centre, and specialized spaces for digital design and artificial intelligence. A dedicated laboratory for agricultural science and production.

“Anywhere in the country where young people have a little singing or musical talent, they are going to want to come to Brighton Secondary to hone it and get better,” he said. The classrooms, he added, will be fully wired, interconnected, and technologically advanced, setting a new national standard for secondary education.

Beyond education, Gonsalves outlined plans to expand healthcare access through the construction of two new polyclinics in East St. George. These facilities will decentralize medical services and provide comprehensive care.

In the wake of Hurricane Beryl, the Minister reaffirmed the government’s commitment to rebuilding homes for affected families.

Tourism development also featured prominently in his address. Gonsalves pointed to ongoing upgrades to the Calliaqua waterfront and initiatives to support small hospitality businesses, positioning East St. George as a future hub for eco-tourism and cultural experiences.

Additional projects include road rehabilitation in Glen and Fairhall, the development of youth and community centres, “This is not about promises,” Gonsalves told the crowd. “It’s about plans already in motion and our commitment to deliver.” He urged constituents to stay the course, framing the development agenda as part of the ULP’s broader vision.

With East St. George expected to play a decisive role in the upcoming elections, Gonsalves’ detailed roadmap signals the party’s intent to retain the seat through tangible, community driven progress.
