New Democratic Party (NDP) candidate for Central Leeward Mr Conroy Huggins has placed the youth of St. Vincent and the Grenadines at the center of his message with three priority area.
Speaking to supporters at a political rally in North Leeward on Saturday, November 15, ahead of the November 27 election, Huggins criticized the current administration for what he called decades of broken promises and the highest rate of youth unemployment in the Caribbean. He argued that this failure has contributed to rising crime and violence, much of it involving young men, and declared that the NDP is committed to delivering a better future.

Huggins outlined three major initiatives that his part the NDP would transform opportunities for young people across the nation. He promised the establishment of a National Innovation Hub to support entrepreneurs in starting and scaling their businesses, offering mentorship, resources, and access to financing. He also announced plans for a national artificial intelligence and digital innovation policy, with sector specific strategies for film, sports, fintech, and the creative industries, aimed at equipping youth with the tools to thrive in emerging markets. In addition, he pledged to expand the youth economy by introducing a six month duty free concession on digital equipment for creative industries, foryoung innovators and artists to access technology and grow their enterprises.
“These initiatives will ensure that every young person in this country has the opportunities they need and deserve to reach their maximum potential,” Huggins said, adding that the NDP’s vision is to empower youth not only to participate in the economy but to lead it. He reminded supporters that the party has a history of elevating young leaders, citing past candidates who entered politics in their twenties and thirties, and argued that the NDP remains committed to nurturing the next generation.
Claiming the election as “the most important in our history,” Huggins urged young voters to seize the moment, turn out early on November 27, and “put that distinguished mark next to the key.” He closed by reiterating that the NDP’s promise is to deliver real opportunities, not empty words. “We deserve better, and the NDP is committed to delivering that better for our youth,” he declared.
