North Leeward candidate Dr. Kishore Shallow has intensified the succession debate within the Unity Labour Party (ULP), alleging at a rally that Prime Minister Dr. Ralph Gonsalves personally told one of his financiers that South Central Windward MP Saboto Caesar would never be chosen to lead the country.
Prime Minister Gonsalves, even recently, has always tipped Caesar as a future leader of the party when listing who is next in line.
According to Shallow, however, the Prime Minister allegedly confided to a financier that there’s no way on earth Saboto Caesar will be the Prime Minister of St. Vincent and the Grenadines. Dr Shallow claimed Dr. Gonsalves gave the reason that Caesar does not have the pedigree to be a leader of this country, and insisted that the only person positioned to succeed him is East St. George MP Camillo Gonsalves who is also the Prime Minister’s son.

Dr. Shallow’s remarks are contrary to Camillo Gonsalves’ sentiments expressed recently at a public meeting where he endorsed Caesar as a future leader of the party.
Dr Shallow himself has been accused of joining the NDP for a quick path to leadership, an allegation that sole claim has lead to him being sidelined in the NDP.
Dr Shallow’s allegation on ULP’s leadership, however, adds a new dimension to ongoing speculation about who will eventually replace Dr. Ralph Gonsalves, 79, who has led the country for over two decades. While Camillo Gonsalves has long been seen as a frontrunner, Shallow’s remarks raise questions about the Prime Minister’s role in shaping the succession and the influence of financiers in political leadership.
Shallow further hinted that he has files on MP Camillo Gonsalves, promising to reveal additional details in the future. “After this election, there will be no more Camillo, there will be no more Saboto and no more Carlos James”.
