VINLEC has unveiled its 2026 calendar, “Kaiso Stories”, a cultural tribute to the artistry and social commentary of Vincentian calypsonians. The initiative, announced on the company’s social media platforms, highlights landmark songs under twelve themes, each representing the enduring impact of calypso on national life.
Dr. Vaughn Lewis, CEO of VINLEC, explained the vision behind the calendar: “Over the years, many outstanding calypsonians have graced our tents and stages, sharing stories, offering social commentary, and lifting our spirits through the power of calypso. Our twelve-month calendar does not attempt to capture the full history of calypso in St. Vincent and the Grenadines given the depth of talented artists and songs available. Our approach was to categorize landmark songs, which have left a lasting impact on us, under twelve themes.”
In addition to the calendar, VINLEC will host a monthly competition throughout 2026, inviting young performers to present “covers” of these timeless classics. The company hopes the initiative will inspire the next generation to embrace calypso while keeping its storytelling tradition alive.
Dr. Lewis emphasized the importance of public participation “We also invite you to share, through our social media accounts, some of your favourite calypsos throughout the year to celebrate the artistry and storytelling power of our calypsonians. Together, we will deepen our collective knowledge of this aspect of our culture.”
The Kaiso Stories calendar and accompanying competition form part of VINLEC’s broader commitment to cultural preservation and community engagement, ensuring that calypso continues to resonate with audiences old and new.
