One News SVG has been reliably informed that more than 150 employees with the Ministry of Housing have received termination letters today (December 31, 2025).
The workers, employees by the Cabinet of the previous government, were tagged as temporary workers by the newly sworn-in New Democratic Party administration which won the November 27, 2025 General Election.
In letters obtained by One News SVG from some of the dismissed workers under The Housing Reconstruction/ rehabilitation Program, Post Hurricane Beryl 2024, the employees were told by the ministry that:
The letters dated December 29, 2025 stated: “The phase of the Housing Reconstruction/ Rehabilitation program post Beryl will come to an end on the 31″ December, 2025.”
“Please be advised that your services as an assessor assistant under the temporary employment Beryl phase of the program will no longer be required,” the letters stated.
“You will be paid for any vacation that is due to you,” the letters also stated.
Leave Forms were given to officers before they received their letters. Some officers are seeking legal redress.
“The Ministry of Housing, Land Management, Housing Development et al takes this opportunity to thank you for the service you have rendered and wish you all the best in your future endeavors,” the letter added.
One News SVG tried reaching out to the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Housing for comment, but three efforts were unsuccessful.
