The Government and people of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines on January 13 received a donation of 20,000 sacks of rice, relief items such as clothing, sporting and personal effects, along with a fire truck from the Republic of China (Taiwan), during a formal handing-over ceremony at the Modern Port in Kingstown.
The ceremony was attended by Government officials, representatives of the Embassy of the Republic of China (Taiwan), and other specially invited guests.
The donated items are intended to support national development efforts and enhance capacity within key sectors of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines.

Speaking at the ceremony, Minister of Social Welfare and Community Empowerment, Ecclesiastical Affairs and National Heritage, Shevern John noted that the rice and charitable items will go towards the social assistance programme and community-based mechanisms to reach low-income families and those in greatest need.
The Minister added that the items will “reduce hardship, enhance household resilience and provide a measure of stability for those facing daily struggles.”
Minister John also stated that the fire truck donated is a “significant investment in public safety and national resilience.”

In remarks delivered on behalf of the Republic of China (Taiwan), Ambassador Her Excellency Fiona Huei-Chun Fan reaffirmed Taiwan’s commitment to supporting Saint Vincent and the Grenadines through practical cooperation and shared values.
Ambassador Fan emphasized that Taiwan remains a reliable development partner working closely with the government to address priority needs and improve the well-being of the Vincentian people.
St Vincent and the Grenadines and the Republic of China on Taiwan formed ties in 1981, marking 45 years of diplomatic relations.
