The Royal Saint Vincent and the Grenadines Police Force (RSVGPF) said it has launched an investigation into the death of a male visitor, which occurred on Sunday, January 18, 2026, aboard a ferry operating within the Grenadines.

In a January 19 press release, the RSVGPF said the deceased had been identified as David John Hyde, a 73-year-old visitor, who was pronounced dead by a district medical officer later that day.

“Preliminary information suggests that the deceased may have sustained injuries consistent with a fall; however, a post-mortem examination is scheduled to be conducted to determine the exact cause of death,” police said.

The RSVGPF said it is encouraging anyone who may have information that can assist with this investigation to contact Police Emergency at 911 or 999, the Criminal Investigations Department at 784-456-1810, or any police station or police officer.

“All information received would be treated confidentially,” police said.

The Royal Saint Vincent and the Grenadines Police Force said it extends condolences to the family and loved ones of the deceased.

In January 2024, a German national Matthias Thormaehlen, 53, a visitor to SVG died after complaining of chest pains.

While Mr. Thormaehlen and a group were cycling through the Sion Hill/Casson Hill area, Thormaehlen was reportedly complaining about chest pains and then passed out.

He was transported to the Milton Cato Memorial Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

In March 2025, another tourist died in a suspected drowning incident at Chatham Bay, Union Island, days after a German tourist drowned at Mount Wynne area.
