At the media launch of the Vincy Soccer Premier League (VSPL) and the CONCACAF U17 Boys World Cup Qualifiers, Chairman of the Local Organizing Committee, Roxell John, delivered an address that underscored the transformative vision for football in St. Vincent & the Grenadines.

John opened by acknowledging the presence of government officials, sponsors, clubs, and media representatives, stressing that “Change and advancements are always welcome words to the ears of progressive people.”

He described the VSPL as a platform that must adapt to global trends in order to enhance football’s marketability and sustainability.

“Football has always been the game of the people in St. Vincent and the Grenadines, and that has not changed. But we must move with the global changes required to make football a livelihood for all stakeholders,” he said.

The chairman outlined the LOC’s commitment to rigorous marketing and branding programs, improved logistical support, and stronger relations between the SVG Football Federation, clubs, and stakeholders. He emphasized that the launch marks “a new and exciting vision which we hope, in the not too distant future, can evolve into a fully fledged semi-professional football league.”

John extended gratitude to those who have supported the journey so far and invited wider participation from businesses and communities. “We say move forward with us in the right direction as one island chain, with one positive footballing dream, into one new visionary tier,” he concluded.

The Vincy Soccer Premier League (VSPL) is the flagship competition of the St. Vincent & the Grenadines Football Federation (SVGFF). Football has long been the most popular sport in the country, with the Federation established in 1979 and affiliated with FIFA in 1988.

The Premier League itself was formally organized in 2009 under the name NLA SVGFF Club Championship, later rebranded as the SVGFF Premier Division, and now promoted as the VSPL.
