Journalist Kenton Chance Appointed by NDP Government for Diplomatic Post

Renowned journalist Kenton Chance has been appointed Ambassador Designate to the Republic of China (Taiwan) by the New Democratic Party (NDP) administration in St. Vincent and the Grenadines (SVG).

At a ceremony held this morning (January 22) at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Conference Room to announce new Heads of Mission, Mr Chance was named among several new diplomats who will advance the country’s foreign policy agenda in key postings across Latin America and Asia.

Mr Chance, founder of iWitness News and contributor to the Caribbean Media Corporation, will succeed Andrea Bowman as Ambassador to the Republic of China (Taiwan).

Mr Chance, who studied in Taiwan on scholarship, obtained his first degree in Journalism there, before completing a Master’s degree in International Relations, also in Taiwan.

According to the Ministry of Education in Taiwan, Mr Chance was one of ten recipients of the 2022 Distinguished Taiwan Alumni Award, which recognises the outstanding achievements of foreign students who have studied in Taiwan. He was honoured for his contribution to promoting a free press environment in St. Vincent and the Grenadines.

Other appointees announced include long-standing NDP member Roland ‘Patel’ Matthews, who will serve as Consul General in New York, replacing Rodney Luta McIntosh. Mr Matthews previously served as Member of Parliament for North Leeward.

NDP official and attorney Ms Vynette Frederick has been appointed Ambassador to the United Nations, replacing Inga Rhonda King.

Mr Brereton Horne will serve as High Commissioner of St. Vincent and the Grenadines to the United Kingdom, while social activist, accountant and businesswoman Ideisha Jackson will take up the position of Ambassador Designate to the Republic of Cuba.

Prime Minister Dr the Honourable Godwin Friday and Minister of Foreign Affairs the Honourable Fitzgerald Bramble attended the ceremony.
