The Government of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines has officially announced new Heads of Missions and Consulates during a ceremony at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Conference Room.

The appointments include Roland Matthews as Consul General to New York, Vynette Frederick as Ambassador to the United Nations, Brereton Horne as High Commissioner to the United Kingdom, Ideisha Jackson as Ambassador Designate to the Republic of Cuba, and Kenton Chance as Ambassador Designate to the Republic of China (Taiwan).

Roland Matthews, a former Member of Parliament for North Leeward, will lead SVG’s consulate in New York, a key post for diaspora engagement given the large Vincentian community in the United States. Vynette Frederick, an attorney and former senator, will represent SVG at the United Nations, continuing the country’s active participation in global discussions on climate change, sustainable development, and small‑island state issues. Brereton Horne a Lawyer, specialised in criminal defence, will serve as High Commissioner in London, strengthening ties with the United Kingdom in education, trade, and development cooperation. Ideisha Jackson, an educator and development professional, will oversee bilateral cooperation with Cuba, focusing on health, education, and technical assistance, areas where Cuba has historically partnered with SVG.

Kenton Chance, a journalist and communications professional, is the founder of IWitness News and has worked across local, regional, and international media since 2002. He studied at Ming Chuan University in Taiwan, earning degrees in Journalism and International Affairs, and in 2022 became the first Vincentian to receive Taiwan’s Distinguished Alumni Award. His appointment as Ambassador Designate to Taiwan reflects both his professional background and personal ties to Taipei, positioning him to advance SVG’s diplomatic agenda and strengthen cultural and educational exchanges.

The announcement underscores the government’s effort to reinforce diplomatic representation across strategic postings. New York, London, Havana, Taipei, and the United Nations are critical canters for SVG’s foreign policy, covering diaspora relations, multilateral diplomacy, and bilateral cooperation. Officials noted that the appointments combine political, professional, and academic experience, positioning SVG to advance its interests abroad while maintaining strong ties with traditional partners.
