Speaking at a community development town hall meeting under the theme “Together We Build”, Member of Parliament for West St George, Mr Kaschaka Cupid, placed housing at the centre of his message, assuring residents that political affiliation will not determine who receives assistance.

Addressing the audience, Cupid acknowledged that many families in the constituency continue to face housing challenges, some stemming from disasters such as Hurricane Beryl and the volcanic eruption.

“There are a number of persons in West St George who were unfortunately affected by Hurricane Beryl, and probably as far back as the volcano as well to, you wouldn’t have given the adequate attention and care and support that you really needed,” he said.

He stressed that his commitment is to every resident, regardless of whether they supported the ruling Unity Labour Party (ULP) or the opposition New Democratic Party (NDP). “Gone are the days where politics is played with our homes. No political interference, whether you support ULP in the past, whether you support NDP, I personally, I don’t care. However, I care about the roof over your head,” Cupid said.

The MP introduced the primary assessor who will visit communities to evaluate housing needs and determine whether residents require material or other forms of support.  MP Cupid explained that the process will be based on need rather than political loyalty.

Reassuring constituents, Cupid added “I don’t want rain to cover your property at any point, your bedroom, your living room. That would not happen under my watch. So, the residents of West St George, I want you to be comforted this evening, knowing that you have a representative who genuinely cares about your welfare, one who cares about your needs. One who will prioritise you.”

The MP concluded by linking his commitment to the example set by his father, noting the sacrifices made for family and community. “My goal is to take care of you… and this is the reason why you voted for me. I am here to really serve you to the best of my ability,” he said.
