Speaking at Cabinet on Tuesday, 3 March 2026, Prime Minister Dr. Godwin Friday announced a proposed US$50 million climate resilience and water infrastructure project led by the Caribbean Community Climate Change Centre. The project aims to strengthen water security in St. Vincent and the Grenadines.

The proposed initiative is expected to modernize desalination facilities, expand water storage capacity, install six new storage tanks in Georgetown and Kingstown Park, and improve distribution systems.

Approximately US$40 million of the financing is anticipated to come from the Green Climate Fund as grant funding. “This project will fundamentally transform water security in our country, particularly in the Grenadines, where a reliable supply is essential for residents and tourism development,” the Prime Minister said. He noted that water transportation costs currently represent a significant economic burden and an impediment to expansion in the hospitality sector.
