Trial dates are now set for the hearing of election petitions on July 28, 29, and 30, 2026.
Senior Counsel Stewart Richard Young, S.C. together with Counsel Al Elliott of A. C. Elliott Attorneys and Counsel Carlos James of Carlos James Law Chambers, appeared in court today (March 5), on behalf of the Petitioners, Agustus Carlos Williams and Luke Browne, in election petition proceedings currently before the Eastern Caribbean Supreme Court in Saint Vincent and the Grenadines.
The Petitioners have filed petitions against the Respondents, Dwight Fitzgerald Bramble, and Lorraine Godwin Friday, who have acknowledged being citizens of Canada.
The Petitioners are seeking the Court’s interpretation of a constitutional point arising under Section 26(1)(a) of the Constitution of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, specifically whether the Respondents are qualified to have been returned by the Supervisor of Elections as Representatives for the constituencies of Northern Grenadines and East Kingstown respectively during the November 27th, 2025 general elections.
Section 26(1)(a) of the Constitution provides:
“No person shall be qualified to be elected or appointed as a Representative or Senator if he—
(a) is, by virtue of his own act, under any acknowledgement of allegiance, obedience, or adherence to a foreign power or state.”
The matters are presently being heard before High Court Justice (Ag.) Gertel Thom in the High Court as part of the Court’s jurisdiction over election petitions under the laws of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines.
