The Literary & Arts Festival officially opens today, March 9, at 5:00 p.m., at the University of the West Indies Global Campus, bringing together local writers, artists, and performers for three days of literary and cultural celebration.

The festival, organized by the University of the West Indies Global Campus in collaboration with the Vincentian Association of Artists, Writers and Producers Inc., the National Public Library, the Ministry of Education, Vocational Training and Innovation, Digital Transformation and Information, and the Ministry of Youth, Sports, Culture and Creative Industries, runs from March 9 through March 11, 2026 under the theme, “Echoes of Our Heritage: Roots, Rhythm and Reels.”

The festival opens Monday, March 9, with a ceremony at 5:00 p.m. On Tuesday, March 10, and Wednesday, March 11, the Book, Craft, and Visual Art Exhibition will run from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. each day, featuring works from both local creators and Vincentians in the diaspora.

A two-day book launch and signing will take place on Tuesday and Wednesday at 4:30 p.m., highlighting three prominent local authors and one Vincentian writer from overseas. Another main highlight, “An Evening of the Arts,” is scheduled for Tuesday, March 10, starting at 6:30 p.m. at the Global Campus.

Children and young people can participate in the Children’s Village on Wednesday, March 11, from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., which will include a talent showcase, opportunities to present samples of their writing, and a special children’s literary exhibit.

The festival forms part of the celebrations for National Heroes and Heritage Month and aims to encourage Vincentians to engage with literature while showcasing the country’s creative talent. Performances throughout the three days will feature artists who represented St. Vincent and the Grenadines at CARIFESTA XV in Barbados last year.

All activities are open to the public at no cost, and organizers are encouraging everyone to come out and experience the diverse talent being celebrated in St. Vincent and the Grenadines.
