Intermediate High School has kicked off its 100th anniversary celebrations under the theme “Educating Generations, Enriching Lives for the Future,” beginning with a cultural event that celebrated the school’s century-long history and Garifuna heritage.

The cultural event took place on Thursday, March 12th, 2026, at Intermediate High School under the theme “Echoes of Hope: A Century in Song, Story and Spirit,” organized by the Modern Languages and Arts Department in collaboration with the Social Sciences Department.

“This centennial celebration honors the vision and legacy of Dr. J. P. Eustace, whose dream was to provide quality educational opportunities for underprivileged students and create pathways for a brighter future,” the school said in a recent press release.

The programme opened with the “A Century in Story” segment, which took the audience on a reflective journey through the school’s history. Performances included dance presentations and original poems written by current teachers Ms. Arlane Sutherland and Mr. Rohan Bellingy, highlighting the struggles, triumphs, and hopes that have shaped the school’s journey.

The second segment focused on songs of thanksgiving and praise to God, reflecting Dr. Eustace’s vision of a school grounded in Christian principles. During the celebration, the school band made a special appearance after years of dormancy, while Fourth and Fifth Form music students performed in a recorder ensemble, showcasing the continued growth of music education.

The final segment celebrated the resilience and unity that define the school’s legacy, honoring founders and influential leaders such as Mr. “Timmy” Richards, who contributed to the school’s development for forty-eight years.

Through cultural dances and fashion displays featuring Garifuna attire, traditional wear, and futuristic school uniforms, students and staff highlighted the school’s rich heritage while looking toward the future.

“For a century, the institution has remained committed to nurturing young minds, shaping character, and empowering generations of students through knowledge, discipline, and service,” the school said. “The centenary theme reflects the enduring impact of the pioneers of education, whose sacrifices, dedication, and commitment continue to resonate in the achievements of past and present students.”
