Superintendent Parnel Browne, Head of the Traffic Department within the Royal St. Vincent and the Grenadines Police Force (RSVGPF), is calling on motorists to exercise caution and responsibility during the long Easter holiday weekend. Speaking on WEFM’s Morning Show Cop Chat, Browne highlighted the dangers of reckless driving and reminded road users of their duty to protect loved ones.
The Easter period spans from Friday, April 3, 2026 (a public holiday – Good Friday), to Monday, April 6 (Easter Monday, a public holiday). Many activities are scheduled to take place across the country.
“With this Easter weekend, I am so happy that we are here because this is a medium where we can reach out to persons who would be using our roads to drive with extra care and caution,” Browne said. He stressed that families and friends are often passengers during holiday outings, and drivers must prioritize their safety. “If someone or something is very important to you, try to protect them at all costs,” he added.

Among his key warnings were against drinking and driving, speeding, and overtaking recklessly. Browne urged drivers to ensure their vehicles are roadworthy and that they themselves are in the right state of mind before getting behind the wheel. “Ensure that you are in a sober and sound mind and you will drive your motor vehicle as a wise and prudent driver on our roads during this Easter weekend and beyond,” he said.
As of April 2, 2026, there have been 174 reported motor vehicular accidents and three (3) road fatalities.
In his Easter season advice, Superintendent Browne also reminded motorists to use indicators properly, avoid overtaking near intersections, and be mindful of traffic rules. He confirmed that police officers will be deployed across the mainland and on the Grenadine islands, including Bequia, to conduct routine traffic checks and maintain safety.
Though the Traffic Department is small, Browne assured the public that officers will be strategically divided to cover key areas. “We have to divide ourselves in small groups so that we could facilitate or accommodate the different islands,” he explained.
As families prepare to enjoy the holiday, Browne’s message is clear, caution, sobriety, and responsibility are essential to keeping the roads safe this Easter weekend.
