Lawyer, journalist, and social commentator Jomo Thomas has called on the government to urgently appoint a communications specialist, stressing that public communication must be better planned and delivered.
Speaking during his Plain Talk commentary on Boom 106.9’s morning show, Thomas argued that too many government messages are not being properly structured or presented to citizens.
“There are some things that need to be planned and said and presented to the public in ways in which they are not now being planned, said, planned and presented to the public,” Thomas stated.
He emphasized that his call was not a critique of the PrimeMinister’s press secretary Danielle Veira, but rather a broader appeal for a dedicated communications director to strengthen the administration’s ability to explain and frame its actions.
While the government already has a press secretary, Thomas is of the view that the role of a communications specialist is distinct. A press secretary primarily manages media relations and official statements, while a communications specialist develops broader strategies to shape public perception and ensure consistent messaging across platforms.
