Vincentian Karen Hinds recently took to the TEDx stage, an international platform known for sharing ideas and personal stories, delivering a thought-provoking message on identity and authenticity that is resonating with audiences around the world.

Ms. Hinds delivered the talk on March 8, 2026 in West Palm Beach, Florida as part of International Women’s Day activities. Rather than a traditional lecture, her presentation took the form of a personal reflection, inviting the audience to look beyond titles, achievements and expectations to consider a deeper question of identity.

Drawing on her own experiences, Ms. Hinds spoke about a period in her life when she had achieved success by every external measure, yet realised she had built a life where she was valued but not fully known.

“Who actually knows the real you? Beyond the roles you play, beyond what you have achieved, beyond the version of you that people have come to expect.” Ms. Hinds said.

After relocating during the COVID-19 pandemic, Ms. Hinds said she found herself in an unfamiliar environment without the expectations that had long defined her. In that stillness she began to reflect more honestly on her life and the version of herself she had presented to others.

She came to recognise that while she had been seen as strong, dependable and accomplished, there were parts of her that remained unseen.

“You can be surrounded by people and still be completely unknown. And at some point, that catches up with you.” Ms. Hinds said.

Ms. Hinds noted that this experience is not uncommon, particularly among high achievers who are often taught to prioritise strength, reliability and success, sometimes at the expense of authenticity. Her message challenges that mindset, encouraging individuals to consider what it truly means to be seen and known.

For many in St. Vincent and the Grenadines, Ms. Hinds’ appearance on the TEDx stage represents a moment of pride as she continues to make her mark internationally while carrying her Vincentian roots with her.

Ms. Hinds has long been recognised for her work in leadership development and has maintained strong ties to her home country. She previously contributed to The Searchlight newspaper and founded the Karen Hinds Phenomenal Woman’s Conference, creating a space for women to connect, reflect and grow.

She is now the author of five books with a sixth, The 5 Commitments to Leading Without Losing You™, expected later this year. She also leads The RENEW Experience™, a platform focused on leadership and wellness for women operating in high-pressure environments.
