A man from the North Central Windward area of Colonarie has died days after an altercation with a teenager.

The man identified as Winston McMillan, 65, was pronounced dead sometime after 11 a.m. this morning (April 13) at the Milton Cato Memorial Hospital.

His death came less than an hour after a female teenager was charged with attempted murder at the Serious Offenses Court in Kingstown. It is unclear whether the charge will be upgraded.

The accused was represented by Former Prime Minister Dr. Ralph Gonsalves who is also from Colonarie, North Central Windward. Dr. Gonsalves said in court this morning that he knows the family of the young lady very well and that there is “potential for grave injustice in this case”.

He challenged the “calcification” of the prosecution system regarding why he described as the “maximalist position” in laying certain charges even in the face of certain material facts.

The prosecution did not object to bail, and bail was granted to the defendant in the sum of $25,000 with one surety. She, however, is expected to surrender all travel documents and report to the Colonarie Police Station.

Dr. Gonsalves, who is aided by Ronnie Marks is expected to appear in court again with the defendant on April 20, 2026.

Gonsalves said he has already paid his legal license fees.

The Colonarie incident

Reports indicate that an altercation occurred between the man, Winston McMillan, (now deceased) and the accused teen on Thursday, April 9. During the incident, a knife was produced, and the man was struck on the head, allegedly with a piece of wood.

Mr McMillan was transported to the hospital , where he was placed on life support. Relatives layered reported that he was “brain dead” and not pronounced dead yesterday (April 12), contrary to media reports. This morning, however, he was pronounced dead.

Multiple reports from the communicate indicate that tensions between the man and the teen were not new with some persons expressing sadness over the outcome of the tensions while others have reported their relief.
