Miami, Florida (ONE NEWS SVG) – Vincentian crew workers on Royal Caribbean ships are scheduled to sail home on May 15, a memo from the ship to its workers says.
The memo obtained by One News SVG from a worker on Sunday (May 3) states: “Caribbean, Central and South American crew: Transferring to Vision, Rhapsody and Adventure. Vision will sail from Miami on May 15 and will sail to St. Kitts, Dominica, St. Lucia, Grenada, Trinidad and St. Vincent and the Grenadines, where she will end her voyage on June 7”.
The memo sent to staff also outlined the departure dates for crew from different regions.
The memo from the desk of President and CEO of Royal Caribbean International, Michael Bayley states, however, that the current repatriation plans, are “pending approval from various governments”, and that the dates provided are “a rough estimate”.
The issue of sailors trapped on cruise lines reached a boiling point recently, when a crew member of Jewel of the Seas, a 26-year old Polish electrician jumped over board.
The sailors have been stuck on the seas, pending clearance from the US Centers for Disease Control, amidst the Covid-19 pandemic which has hit the cruise line industry.
