Social commentator has big ideas for minibus operators

Discussion: As minibus operators across St. Vincent demand support from the government yet again, one social commentator has made proposals that could change the sector.

Mikhail Akers, known for pushing discussions on national issues has made some key proposals that could reshape the public transportation industry in St. Vincent and the Grenadines.

His proposals were made in a Facebook post yesterday and One News SVG received his permission to reshare the post.

Form an Omnibus Cooperative

Each member contributes a minimum of $25 per month, this goes towards investments that will benefit each member

As a society, lobby to import vehicle parts, oils and tires at a reduced tax rate
Open a gas station/ car wash, sell members fuel at a reduced rate
Start a Scholarship program
Uniform each member
Remove members guilty of speeding , recklessness and unsavory behavior
Start a Group Health Insurance, how many members of the industry take their health seriously?

Apart from a bank or two and the various burial societies, our only long lasting co-op entities have been the political parties.

This is because most of our people are like crabs in a barrel always eager to pull each other down or crawl over each other to gain some personal advantage.

Please allow me to add a few suggestions as well on what the minivans operators should do,
Consider a relay and Express system on long routes
As the president consider an arranged amount of money that will be paid into a fund weekly/fortnightly or monthly for any unforeseen circumstances in the future and to be used for vehicle maintenance
