Condolences to the Family of the Legendary Winston ‘Soso’ Lockhart

KINGSTOWN, ST. VINCENT AND THE GRENADINES, 20th July, 2021: The Minister and staff of the Ministry of Tourism, Civil Aviation, Sustainable Development, and Culture wish to extend sincerest condolences to the family of the late Legendary Winston ‘Soso’ Lockhart, who passed away on 18th July, 2021.  ‘Winston Soso’, was a Calypsonian icon for several decades, winning the first Soca Monarch title in 1996.

 In 2014, the Government of St. Vincent and the Grenadines bestowed Mr. Lockhart the honor of ‘Cultural Ambassador’ in recognition of his contribution to our local culture and the art. Additionally, In 2016 Winston Soso was awarded a ‘Lifetime Achievement Award’ by the Vincy Care Inc.

Many Vincentians both local and in the diaspora will remember Winston ‘Soso’ Lockhart for some of his main hit songs namely:

  • Ah feel to party tonight
  • How some men love they woman
  • I don’t mind
  • All man ah want It

Minister James noted that the Rolls Royce of Calypso’ led a powerful musical journey, which will remain etched in the minds of many for years to come.

 “Winston Soso’s catalogue of songs transcends several generations. He was able to remain current yet original and inspired many others who followed him in the industry. He had a particular uniqueness to his craft,” the Minister said.

St. Vincent and the Grenadines has indeed lost one of its greatest members in the entertainment industry and mourns the loss of the ‘Rolls Royce of Calypso’ and we remain in solidarity with the entertainment industry during this time of great loss.
