A student from the Sugar Mill Academy located in Ratho Mill took the top spot in the 2022 CPEA examinations.
CPEA stands for Caribbean Primary Exit Assessment, and it is administered by the Caribbean Examinations Council – CXC.
According to a release from the Ministry of Education and National Reconciliation, Kuba Ashley Francis placed first overall for the exam.
In second position is Kaela Amari Bobb of the Kingstown Preparatory School, and third position was taken by Osanna Chantal Sprott of the St. Mary’s Roman Catholic School.
Grade 6 students registered for the 2022 Caribbean Primary Exit Assessment (CPEA) concluded their final examination on Friday May 13th, 2022. Of the 1714 students registered, 1705 wrote the final examination.
Students’ final scores were derived from the aggregate scores of both components of the CPEA. That is, the External Assessment which consisted of Multiple Choice Tests in Mathematics, Science , Language Arts and Social Studies and from the School-Based Assessment which comprised a Project, a Writing Portfolio, a Book Report as well as Teacher Tests, Pupil Made Tests and Can-Do-Skills exercises in Mathematics, Science, Language Arts and Social Studies.
The preliminary results indicate that the proportion of students who met the prescribed standard was 1430 (83.87%), a slight decrease over last year’s 84.96%. This number includes 671 (78.11%) males and 759 (89.72%) females.
The CPEA exams replaced the Common Entrance Exams since 2014 for students exiting the primary school system.
