Mr. Amiston Ormiston Samuel known as ‘Malo’ and ‘Buddy Malo’ of Three Acres Barrouallie is celebrating his 101st birthday today (April 5).
Mr. Samuel was born on April 5, 1922.
According to his family, he spent much of his younger years as a carpenter, construction worker, and farmer.
His family describes him as a loving person who loves music. “He spends most of his time in his room resting and singing old folk songs from his era,” his granddaughter Kimberly Francis told One News SVG today.
His granddaughter said one of his favourite songs is Jean and Dinah from the Mighty Sparrow.
Today, Mr. Samuel was surrounded by close family and friends and he was in a cheerful mood. Apart from his natural musical rhythm, Mr. Samuel has been a lover of good food and good health.
Mr. Samuel said “good care” from his mother “and obedience, yard fowl and provisions and late night cooking with no high seasoning,” have contributed to his good health up to old age.
The centenarian also gave advice to persons in the current generation.
He said the young should “go to school and take in your education, be sure of yourself and do not make others tell your dreams can’t be met.”
